The Most Frequent Questions
Q: Is AHU Accredited?
A: Yes, at this time, AHU is privately accredited through the American Alternative
Medical Association, which involves “program accreditation” and
not “national or regional accreditation,” or “institutional
accreditation.” Our degree programs have been evaluated and are reevaluated
and reaccredited on a regular basis.
Q: Would people be grand-fathered when AHU obtains institutional accreditation?
A: History dictates this as the general result. At that point, all students
who have graduated with degrees could call their degrees awarded by a nationally
or regionally accredited institution.
Q: What kind of students are enrolled or have obtained AHU degrees?
A: Most are people in private practice who desire a higher status or competitive
edge in their community. Many have published books, or are licensed professionals
in another profession. Some are college professors who teach at other educational
institutions. Many teach workshops or presentations in their chosen fields
of interest.
Q: What is the enrollment process?
A: First, students submit an application with a small application fee. Admissions
reviews the application and calculates any credits due for previous courses
or relative training programs. Secondly, if the student desires enrollment,
they will set up a financial plan that suits them.
Once enrolled, the student is given an enrollment key for the AHUonline.us
course management site. The student submits the key to the degree track of
their choice, and the system sends back a pass code that fits their selected
user name.
Now, the student can view their core and elective courses. All courses are
self-paced, non-timed, and self-grading with answers derived from the texts.
Some exams involve 10% inference, which means that the student must deduct
the correct answer from knowing the material in the text; otherwise, all answers
may be found almost verbatim in the required texts. All students have a grade
book feature where they can view their scores. Each student has two attempts
to make 80% or higher and pass.
AHU studied many course management systems and discovered and implemented an
internationally popular system designed in Australia with a reputation of being
the most user-friendly. This system is utilized by thousands of educational
institutions around the globe. Students may see how easy it is by taking the
sample course on the front of AHUonline.us.
Q: If I am a doctorate student, how do I complete my capstone project?
A: If you are enrolled in a clinical doctorate, you must complete a
clinical thesis. This involves a topic of interest that you research
and footnote, correlating published concepts in order to meet a hypothesis.
Some natural health students write about diagnostics, for example.
These papers are submitted to the university.
If you are enrolled in a philosophical doctorate, you can either complete the
capstone project through dissertation involving a hypothesis with research
(a survey or study of participants), or by writing a well-researched book.
For dissertation capstones, the student may work with a faculty member of their
choosing, who will assist in the project and submit it to AHU after grading.
For book capstones, the managing director of AHU Press (Transpersonal Publishing)
grades the book and either refers the student to a proven success track for
self-publishing, or offers a contract for the book to be published through
the AHU press. There are no guarantees for entering into contract through AHU’s
publishing arm, which attempts to market popular genres. Book capstones are
submitted to the AHU offices.
Q: How long will it take me to complete a degree?
A: Generally students spend 1 to 3 years per degree. Because each degree program
is self-paced, and each student has other obligations that compete with time
allocations, these are only estimates. Some students are part time, while
others are full time.
Q: Do I need a masters degree in order to enter into a doctorate program?
A: No, not at AHU, since the majority of courses in the doctoral programs are
considered to be clinical in nature (rather than philosophical). Those having
masters degree education may apply credits toward our terminal degrees, but
students may go directly from bachelors to doctorate.
Q: How much does one spend each month if they finance their education
through TFC corporation?
A: Averages payments are approximately $150 per month for 24 or 36 months after
20% down, depending on the degree track. Some students prefer to pay in-full
and receive the greatest tuition discount. All courses are prepaid, except
for the doctoral capstone projects.
Q: Is there a graduation ceremony?
A: Yes. It’s scheduled in conjunction with our annual convention in the
fall of each year. Many students prefer to be presented with their degree at
the awards dinner banquet, rather than receive it in the mail, which is a viable
option.
Q: If I prefer to take a course with faculty, is this included in
my tuition?
A: No. Although students would receive credits toward their AHU degree, there
is a separate financial arrangement between faculty and AHU students; most
faculty teach certification courses that require in-class participation. The
tuition payment students make to AHU covers all of the online courses, which
can fulfill all of the credits necessary to complete a degree, unless it is
a doctoral degree. Doctoral students have an additional capstone fee at the
end of their degree programs.
Q: How do I know I’m getting the best education?
A: Each degree track has a program director who consistently reviews texts
for updated editions and relative courses. New courses are developed on an
ongoing basis, so that students are kept abreast of the most modern developments
in the field.
In addition, unlike many other educational institutions, we provide opportunities
for our doctoral students to become published authors upon graduation, which
increases their success in their chosen career fields.
